An NHS speech and language therapist is in school one day per week (currently Thursdays).
A speech and language therapist works closely alongside school staff, parents/carers, and other professionals to help individuals to develop their communication skills to the best of their ability and reach their potential both educationally and socially.
This can be done through staff training, advice giving, screening and individual assessment. Following individual assessment, a report is produced that contains personalised strategies to support a pupil’s individual needs.
Some children access weekly sessions; we will work on skills such as emotional regulation, inference, vocabulary, speech sounds, building sentences and storytelling.
